Rajasthan state program of Special Olympics Bharat organized a district level Healthy Athlete Screening for Fit Feet on 3 August 2009, along with district level Badminton and Bocce competition for Healthy Athlete’s. Fit Feet is a Healthy Athlete’s Discipline in which Medical Professionals evaluate athletes for deformities of the feet, ankles, lower extremity biomechanics, checking for proper shoe and sock gear, provide education on the proper shoes and socks, and provide community referrals as needed.
Nearly 100 Athletes participated in sports competitions at a district level event. There was a team of one orthopedic doctor, two Physiotherapists, one Occupational Therapist, three Physicians, and two Nurses as volunteers and there were 15 other non-medical volunteers who helped in smooth conduct of the screening. The athletes were screened for Bio-mechanics, bone and joint issues as well as examination of skin and nails along with examination for other foot conditions was done. Out of 82 athletes, 42 were with some kind of medical findings. Prescriptions or screening report were given to all the athletes who were screened and arrangements for follow up program were made for those who require medical attention. |
