Special Olympics Bharat organizes National Championship for Athletics
Over 700 athletes from 23 states participated in Special Olympics Bharat National Championship for athletics in month of January 2010 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The athletes participated in 26 Track & Field events during the seven day programs.
This championship was organized by Andhra Pradesh Chapter and showcased best teamwork and support received from the Rural Development Trust, District Collecto rate, Department of Disabled Welfare, Municipal Corporation, Anantapur.
Torch Run:
The Torch Run was flagged off by Ms. Anne Ferrer from the Rural Development Trust and was received by the Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, IAS District Collector.
The championship had over 1200 participants inclusive of athletes, coaches, escorts, officials and volunteers participating in 24 events divided in 5 groups.
Games Management System:
Mr. Reubin D Silva, Manager – Technology Sports, Special Olympics International helped in managing games on GMS with his team of 50 volunteers. This saved lot of time in scheduling the events and in divisioning.

Apollo Health Program
During the championship, the athletes were screened for Special Smiles, Opening Eye, Healthy Hearing, Feet Fit, Fun fitness and IQ by the team of doctors from Apollo and government hospital.
