Launch of 2010 Special Olympics International Master Plan

We are pleased to provide you the final version of our 2010 Master Plan, outlining our strategies and goals for the current year. Our efforts now and into 2010 are guided by several strategic principles:

• Urgency: We are driven by the great opportunity that Mrs. Shriver’s great legacy provides for us to extend the joy of sports and the power of unity to people all over the world. We acknowledge that the window of opportunity is short and fleeting.

• Sustainability: This must be a deliberate strategy, not a hopeful outcome. We continue to instill a business mindset into our plans and initiatives. We acknowledge that our systems and core services infrastructure foundation has to be strengthened to match our continued commitment to the rapid expansion of our 999Movement.

• Alignment: We must build and grow as one Movement, not the sum total of our individual parts. Collectively a movement creates a powerful multiplier effort. With our depth and breadth as a Movement, we will leverage our catalytic power.

Our Master Plan is organized into several sections. This year we have added a strategic overview which provides an early snapshot into some of our emerging thinking for our 2011-2015 plan and key multi-year priorities. Organization-wide goals in each of the developing strategic areas are designed to focus our cross-functional efforts in 2009 and facilitate transition to implementation of the new Strategic Plan next year. As with last year, we summarize the core operational plans and priorities in one page for each Region and HQ Divisions. In the spirit of full disclosure and transparency, we include our financial summary and budget narrative, outlining our core plans on revenue and expenses. This core budget does not include several investment initiatives focused on marketing and fundraising which were approved by the Board of Directors in December, after the budget was finalized. These will be included in the first revised budget during Q1. Finally, we have included a new summary on Organization & Leadership, including an outline of our People & Culture efforts for the year
