Special Olympics Sri Lanka Kicks off Family Support Network

Family members of a person with intellectual disability often feel confused and alone. The Special Olympics Family Support Network provides them acceptance, resources, hope, and a chance to become advocates – making them a valued voice in our movement.

Mr. Simon Koh Manager of Organizational Development led the seminar on Family Support Network at Battaramulla, Sri Lanka. The family members & the athletes were briefed on the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, upcoming Cricket Carnival in India and fourth coming World Summer Games in 2011 in Athens Greece.

The importance of forming a Family Support Network was emphasized and it was also discussed that how such a network will help the performance of the athletes as well as Special Olympics Sri Lanka in implementation of its activities. The proposal was well accepted by the family members present and the Family Support Net Work was formed.
